Day 6 was a long hot day. The problem was having to start with a climb which went up and up and up before we had found our legs. It put us behind the clock from the get go. As the temperature rose, so did the daily mileage. We cycled 160km/100miles from Presteigne to Knutsford. As soon as we started we were climbing, reaching an altitude of over 400m before dropping back on tricky roads into the valley.
After some more climbing we reached Church Stretton for a welcome lunch and heat break. Later in the afternoon we cycled on to Shrewsbury, Whitchurch, Nantwich and finally a late finish in Knutsford.
We passed through Nantwich which was apparently the hottest place in the country today. We coped pretty well with the heat. As our hotel wasn't serving food, our next challenge was finding something to eat late on a Sunday evening. No restaurants were serving, so instead we ate a takeaway.

Today we said farewell to Francis O'Leary who has done a magnificent job of supporting us throughout the first part of the ride. He has been a constant source of encouragement, finding us bike shops when we needed them and an ever present source of help always just a bit further up the road. Thanks Francis and have a great time this week mentoring and encouraging other men in Perth at 'Rites of Passage'!
